Lake Rausu is the largest lake in Shiretoko, and for a limited time it is possible to walk to the lakeside from the Shiretoko Crossing Road via a 6km round-trip mountain trail.

The route is at an altitude of about 700m, but because it is located in a high latitude area, the environment is similar to the mountains in central Honshu, Japan, which are over 2000m above sea level.

Even in summer, it can get cold, so you will need the following clothing and equipment.

・Top and bottom rain suit
- Warm clothing such as fleece or inner down
・Knitted hats and gloves
They also have to navigate through a lot of mud and puddles to protect the vegetation. According to local rules, you will need to wear rubber boots, so even those who are used to walking in the mountains will easily lose their strength. Therefore, this course is suitable for those with mountain climbing experience.

We will lend you rubber boots, so please enter your size when you request a reservation (units are cm. No half sizes available).

1. The tour might be cancelled or discontinued because of the very bad weather condition.

2. You can bring snacks for get energy.

3. Please refrain from consuming alcohol immediately before the tour, and refrain from consuming alcohol, smoking during the tour.

6. Participants will be picked up from their hotel in UTORO area 10 to 15 minutes prior to the tour. Pick-up service is handled by SHINRA .
